The Department of Homeland Security will distribute $110 million to more than 600 faith-based organizations and nonprofits for security improvements, Secretary Kristi Noem announced Friday.

The move follows a deadly shooting at a Minnesota Catholic school that left two dead and 18 injured. Police said the 23-year-old suspect “expressed hate towards almost every group imaginable.”

“In the face of violent criminals and radical organizations intent on hurting American communities, the Trump Administration is helping houses of worship, schools and community centers to harden their defenses,” Noem wrote online.

The funding, nearly half of FEMA’s annual nonprofit security grant budget, will go toward cameras, gates, lighting, training, and warning systems for high-risk organizations. The grants are part of FEMA’s existing nonprofit security program, which supports groups vulnerable to terrorist or hate-motivated attacks.
