Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently met with the Danish and Greenlandic ambassadors to discuss the possibility of Greenland selling to the United States, suggesting potential “mutual benefits” from such a transaction. President Donald Trump has renewed interest in acquiring Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory with over 50,000 residents.
Cruz, speaking on Fox News’s One Nation with Brian Kilmeade, recounted the ambassadors’ initial offense at the proposal, to which he responded, “You know what: everything is for sale.” He emphasized that discussions between allies could lead to mutually advantageous outcomes.
Highlighting Greenland’s “abundant rare earth minerals,” Cruz argued that incorporating the island into the U.S. could be strategically beneficial, especially given its position relative to potential threats from Russia or China via the Arctic Ocean. He also noted that Greenlanders, currently not “living in wealth and abundance,” would gain American citizenship, offering them significant opportunities.
