WASHINGTON, DC — A new conservative political action committee is targeting Republican lawmakers who backed a bipartisan immigration proposal, highlighting growing divisions within the GOP over border policy and legal status protections.

The Homeland PAC, founded by political strategist Ryan Girdusky, announced plans to support primary challengers against 19 House Republicans who co-sponsored the DIGNIDAD Act. The legislation includes increased funding for border technology and enforcement, along with fines for undocumented immigrants, but does not offer a pathway to citizenship.

Among those being targeted are Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.), Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.), and Jim Baird (R-Ind.). The PAC argues that any legal status provision weakens immigration enforcement, a position aligned with former President Donald Trump’s hardline deportation approach.

The push reflects broader political tensions as Republicans weigh enforcement-focused policies against outreach to Latino voters. TelevisaUnivision CEO Daniel Alegre warned that dismissing Hispanic concerns could carry political risks, saying, “Ignore the Hispanic vote at your own peril.”

Polling data from Reuters/Ipsos indicates that 52% of Americans are less likely to support candidates who back aggressive deportation policies, underscoring the electoral stakes of the debate.

The primary challenges could reshape Republican positioning ahead of upcoming elections, particularly in districts with significant Hispanic populations.
