Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) expressed concern that President Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza could deter young people in Wisconsin from supporting him. Bowman highlighted the difficulty in engaging voters of color, young people, and certain demographics, and suggested that this challenge could be exacerbated by the administration’s response to the Gaza conflict.
In the recent Wisconsin primary, nearly 50,000 Democrats voted for an “uninstructed” delegation instead of Biden due to his administration’s response to the war in Gaza. Bowman called for continued organizing across the country to push the president towards a permanent ceasefire and humanitarian aid for Gaza. He also mentioned a letter sent by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and over 30 House Democrats to Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging the administration to condition military aid to Israel. Bowman, a signatory of the letter, anticipates more lawmakers will demand an immediate ceasefire.
