President Biden has requested $100 billion from Congress for disaster recovery, citing devastation from hurricanes Helene and Milton. The funding would rebuild homes, infrastructure, and healthcare in affected areas. Biden stressed urgency in a letter, saying, “There can be no delay.”

The request includes $40 billion for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund, which faces a shortfall. Other allocations include $24 billion for farmers, $12 billion for housing recovery, and $2 million for small business disaster loans.

OMB Director Shalanda Young warned agencies are low on funds, citing the need to support ongoing recovery from the Maui fires and Midwest tornadoes. Biden referenced past bipartisan disaster aid, urging Congress to act before the December 20 government funding deadline.
