ABC suspended late-night host Jimmy Kimmel indefinitely Wednesday after remarks he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On his show, Kimmel suggested suspect Tyler Robinson was aligned with President Donald Trump. “The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid … as anything other than one of them,” he said, adding that the tragedy also involved “grieving” amid political finger-pointing.
Sinclair, Inc., which airs ABC programming in 30 markets, announced it would stop broadcasting Kimmel’s show following the comments. “Due to problematic comments regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk … we will stop airing Jimmy Kimmel’s show until further notice,” Sinclair said in a statement.
Trump praised ABC’s move on Truth Social, also mocking fellow late-night hosts Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon. “Next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel,” he wrote.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, speaking earlier this week on the Benny Johnson show, hinted regulators could act if networks failed to address Kimmel’s remarks. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said, suggesting the FCC might intervene.
The White House Rapid Response team also endorsed the suspension, saying ABC was “doing their viewers a favor.”
