Syracuse, NY — President Donald Trump erupted over the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, attacking the committee that denied him the award and warning that the United States would “not forget” Norway.

Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, Trump called the decision “disgraceful” and “embarrassing” and said it left an “indelible stain” on Norway. He also described members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee as “radical ideologues” and “enemies of civilization.”

The 2026 prize went instead to South African jurist Navi Pillay, a former U.N. human rights chief and international judge recognized for decades of work involving human rights, war crimes and genocide. Trump dismissed Pillay as a “mystery person” and claimed that “nobody” had heard of her. Pillay previously defended anti-apartheid activists, served as U.N. human rights chief and worked on international tribunals.

Trump again argued that he deserved the prize, citing several international conflicts he says he helped resolve. Some of those claims remain disputed, while fighting has resumed in several regions he has cited and the wars involving Ukraine and Iran remain unresolved.

The president has complained repeatedly about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize during both of his terms.

His latest tirade came at a political rally intended to support Republican candidates, but Trump devoted significant time to attacking the Nobel Committee and questioning Pillay’s selection.
