ATLANTA, Ga. — Republican Clayton Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris will face off in an April 7 runoff election to fill the remainder of former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s congressional term in Georgia’s 14th District.

Fuller, a local prosecutor and Air National Guard member, finished among the top candidates in the crowded special election field but did not secure the majority needed to avoid a runoff. He received an endorsement from President Donald Trump earlier this year, which helped boost his campaign in the strongly conservative district.

Harris, a retired brigadier general and cattle farmer, previously challenged Greene in 2024. Despite advancing to the runoff, he faces long odds in the deep-red northwest Georgia district, which Greene carried by wide margins during her time in office.

More than 20 candidates entered the special election after Greene’s departure from Congress following a public split with Trump. Greene did not endorse a successor in the race.

The district stretches from Atlanta’s northwestern suburbs to the Alabama and Tennessee borders and has consistently favored Republican candidates. The runoff will determine who temporarily fills the seat, while several candidates are also preparing for a separate primary election later this year for a full term representing the district.

The extended runoff means the seat will remain vacant in Washington for several more weeks as House Republicans seek to expand their narrow majority.
