Terrytown, Louisiana – A suburban New Orleans pastor was sentenced to 80 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two teenage boys, marking his third conviction involving abuse of minors.

Terry Reed was sentenced Thursday in Jefferson Parish after a jury found him guilty in May of two counts of third-degree rape and two counts of molestation of a juvenile. The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office said Reed abused the boys after gaining the trust of their guardians and bringing them into his Terrytown home.

Prosecutors said Reed used his position as a pastor and cited biblical scripture to manipulate the victims and normalize the abuse. During sentencing, the mother of one survivor said she had trusted Reed because she had known him since childhood and had turned to him for help with her son.

Reed had previously pleaded guilty in 1997 to indecent behavior with a juvenile and again in 2017 to indecent behavior with a juvenile and molestation of a juvenile.

Judge Ray Steib imposed the sentence after rejecting defense motions seeking to overturn the verdict or grant a new trial.
