ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Minnesota officials have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking access to federal investigative records tied to a series of shootings involving immigration enforcement agents earlier this year.

The case centers on the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, along with a third non-fatal incident, all linked to a large-scale federal immigration operation in Minneapolis. State officials argue federal agencies have refused to share critical evidence, hindering local investigations into the incidents.

According to the lawsuit, Minnesota authorities were promised cooperation but instead encountered delays and withheld materials from federal agencies, including the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security. The state is asking a federal court to compel the release of documents and evidence.

The shootings have drawn national attention and scrutiny, with conflicting accounts emerging about the circumstances. Federal officials have maintained that agents acted in self-defense, while video evidence and local officials have raised questions about the use of force.

The legal action marks an escalation in tensions between state and federal authorities over immigration enforcement and accountability, as broader debates continue over the role and oversight of federal agents operating within U.S. cities.
