Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson is again criticizing the federal investigation into Wisconsin’s 2020 election, saying the FBI’s questioning of local election officials and police officers risks fueling false claims about the vote.

Johnson told UpFront that President Donald Trump appears focused only on places he lost in 2020. “He’s not challenging election results in states or cities where he won,” Johnson said. “He’s only challenging those results in places where he did not win.”

The Justice Department is investigating aspects of Wisconsin’s 2020 election. Federal investigators have spoken with Wisconsin Elections Commission officials and Milwaukee County election staff. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that at least two Milwaukee police officers who were at the city’s election headquarters on Election Day were also questioned.

The exact scope of the investigation remains unclear. Votebeat reported that the FBI has contacted multiple Wisconsin election officials as part of a broader federal review of 2020 election activity in battleground states.

Wisconsin’s 2020 results were certified after recounts, reviews, and court challenges. No evidence has emerged showing fraud sufficient to change the outcome.
