A man from Michigan was shot and killed after opening fire on a U.S. Border Patrol station in McAllen, Texas, early Monday morning. The suspect, identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, 27 or 28, injured one McAllen police officer before being killed by Border Patrol agents.
Officer Ismael Garcia, a 10-year police veteran, was struck in the knee during the shootout and is recovering, according to Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. Law enforcement found additional assault weapons and ammunition in Mosqueda’s vehicle, along with spray-painted markings, though authorities have not yet disclosed their meaning.
Mosqueda was reported missing from nearby Weslaco at 4 a.m., just two hours before the attack. His motive remains unclear, and officials have not labeled the incident an act of terrorism. The FBI has taken over the investigation due to the attack on federal property.
Flights at McAllen International Airport were delayed as law enforcement secured the area.
