FITCHBURG, Massachusetts — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is under scrutiny after a viral video showed a man appearing to lose consciousness while holding a child during his wife’s arrest. The footage, obtained by the Boston Globe, captures officers attempting to pull the family from their vehicle as bystanders shout that the man is having a seizure.

ICE officials disputed the video’s portrayal, saying emergency responders found “no legitimate medical episode” and that the family declined treatment. The man, identified as Carlos Sebastian Zapata, told the Globe he fainted out of fear that agents would take his wife, Juliana Milena Ojeda-Montoya, who was later detained.

Authorities said Ojeda-Montoya, from Ecuador, faced an assault charge for allegedly stabbing a co-worker. ICE reported that a crowd formed during the arrest, prompting Fitchburg police to intervene. The incident comes amid President Donald Trump’s renewed immigration enforcement campaign, Operation Patriot 2.0, which has detained more than 1,400 people in Massachusetts.
