Los Angeles, California — Federal prosecutors have filed additional terrorism-related charges against four individuals accused of plotting a New Year’s Eve bombing attack targeting businesses in Los Angeles and Orange counties, deepening a case that authorities say involved detailed planning, incendiary rhetoric, and explosive materials.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the defendants are alleged members of a group calling itself the Turtle Island Liberation Front. A federal grand jury indictment unsealed Tuesday adds charges including conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, providing material support to terrorists, and possession of unregistered firearms. Two of the defendants face potential life sentences if convicted.

Prosecutors say one suspect drafted an eight-page handwritten plan, referred to as “Operation Midnight Sun,” outlining targets, bomb-making instructions, and methods for avoiding forensic detection. Investigators allege the group later tested explosive devices in the Mojave Desert using materials such as potassium nitrate, sulfur, and pipe components.

Court filings also describe encrypted messages exchanged among the defendants that included explicit calls for violence against Israel, the United States, and law enforcement. Prosecutors allege two of the suspects discussed attacking U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel with firearms and pipe bombs to intimidate authorities.

Federal officials emphasized that the charges reflect credible, imminent threats rather than rhetoric alone.
