Fairfax County, VA — Federal immigration officials say the man accused of fatally stabbing a woman at a Fairfax bus stop had previously been arrested more than 30 times and was in the country unlawfully.
Abdul Jalloh, 32, is charged in the killing of 41-year-old Stephanie Minter, whose body was discovered earlier this week at a bus stop in Fairfax County. Authorities apprehended Jalloh shortly afterward. Following his arrest, the Department of Homeland Security stated that Jalloh is a native of Sierra Leone who entered the United States illegally in 2012 and accumulated a lengthy criminal record.
According to DHS, his prior arrests included allegations of rape, malicious wounding, assault, identity theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and pickpocketing. Immigration officials lodged a detainer against him in 2020, and he was later issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge, allowing deportation to a third country.
DHS officials criticized Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger and Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano, citing what they described as limited cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Spanberger previously moved to restrict certain forms of coordination between state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
The Washington Examiner reported that DHS is urging state and local officials to ensure Jalloh is not released without notification to ICE.
