Palm Beach, Florida — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Monday to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump, with the change scheduled to take effect July 1 following required federal updates.
The measure passed the Republican-led legislature with an 81-30 vote in the House and 25-11 in the Senate, reflecting strong GOP support. Backers pointed to Trump’s long residence in Palm Beach County and framed the move as recognition of his political and local significance.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it does not approve airport name changes but must update navigational charts and databases before implementation. Meanwhile, DTTM Operations LLC, affiliated with the Trump Organization, filed trademark applications tied to the new name and “DJT” branding.
The Trump Organization stated it would not receive royalties or licensing fees from the rebranding. Eric Trump said he was “proud” to have contributed to the effort.
Critics, including Democratic lawmakers, questioned the priority of the change, citing an estimated $5.5 million cost to taxpayers. Florida’s budget includes about $2.75 million for the transition, with additional costs expected for signage, materials, and administrative updates.
