NEW YORK CITY, NY — Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is closing in on Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race, according to a new poll from AtlasIntel. The survey shows Mamdani leading with 40.6% to Cuomo’s 34%, a difference just outside the 3% margin of error.

The poll, conducted from October 25–30 with 1,587 likely voters, marks Cuomo’s strongest showing since losing the Democratic primary. Cuomo’s campaign said the numbers reflect growing momentum. “The gap is closing fast — we can feel it on the ground everywhere from the Bronx to Staten Island,” Cuomo said in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner.

During a weekend interview, Cuomo dismissed Mamdani’s promises as unrealistic. “People found out what he’s about. There is no free food, and there are no free buses,” he said, criticizing Mamdani’s “Freeze the rent” and “Free buses” campaign slogans.

AtlasIntel CEO Andrei Roman told the New York Post that Mamdani’s policies have sharply polarized voters, while Cuomo’s path to victory may depend on moderate Democrats and independents. Other polls from Emerson, Marist, and Quinnipiac show Mamdani ahead by larger margins, ranging from 10 to 26 points.
