NEW YORK CITY, NY — Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has endorsed Andrew Cuomo’s independent bid for mayor, adding more than $8 million in financial backing through a super PAC just days before Tuesday’s election. The move aims to bolster Cuomo’s campaign against frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist assemblyman from Queens.
“Being mayor of New York City is the second toughest job in America,” Bloomberg wrote Wednesday. “Andrew Cuomo has the experience and toughness to stand up for New Yorkers and get things done.” Cuomo welcomed the endorsement, calling it “an honor to have the support of a mayor who knows firsthand what it takes to run this city.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have endorsed Mamdani, while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has not taken a public stance. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows Mamdani leading Cuomo 43% to 33%, with Republican Curtis Sliwa at 14%.
Early voting in New York City ends Sunday ahead of Election Day on November 4.
