In Oklahoma, a recent investigation has revealed that Bibles distributed to public school teachers under the leadership of former state Superintendent Ryan Walters contain an incomplete version of the U.S. Constitution. This finding was confirmed by fact-checking organization Snopes, which reported that the “God Bless the USA” Bible, endorsed by President Donald Trump, includes only the original seven articles of the Constitution and the first ten amendments, commonly known as the Bill of Rights. Notably, the edition excludes amendments 11 through 27, which address significant rights, including women’s suffrage, due process, and the abolition of slavery.
The situation garnered public attention when Oklahoma teacher Aaron Baker shared a video on TikTok highlighting the omissions. In 2024, Walters had initiated plans to ensure these Bibles were placed in every public school classroom. By March 2025, he collaborated with country singer Lee Greenwood and the Bible’s publisher to distribute over 500 copies to Advanced Placement government teachers across the state.
While the Bible’s publisher claimed it contained “original founding documents,” critics have expressed concern that the omission of the later amendments misrepresents the Constitution’s historical context. In September 2025, Walters resigned from his position to lead a conservative education group, and his successor, Superintendent Lindel Fields, has since stopped the distribution of the Bibles.
Snopes’s investigation confirmed the accuracy of the claims about the Bible’s contents, noting the lack of clarity regarding the inclusion of only the pre-1791 Constitution in the edition. The future of educational materials in Oklahoma schools continues to spark debate among educators and lawmakers.
