Authorities have identified the suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, according to law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent ally of Donald Trump, was killed Wednesday during his “American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Witnesses said he was struck in the neck by a single shot while addressing students. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said the shot was fired from the roof of the Losee Center, about 175–200 yards from the event. Surveillance footage showed the suspect fleeing across rooftops and into a nearby neighborhood. The FBI recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle in a wooded area and is analyzing palm, forearm, and shoe imprints collected from the rooftop.

In a statement, Turning Point USA said Kirk had faced “thousands” of threats but remained committed to engaging young Americans despite the risks. “All of us will miss Charlie. None of us will ever forget him,” the group wrote.

Trump mourned Kirk’s death on Truth Social, calling him someone who “understood and had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America.” Kirk is survived by his wife and two young children.
