Donald Trump is set to testify for the third time in the New York trial alleging a decade of fraud by his business. This session, under his legal team’s guidance, offers Trump more control over the narrative. Previously, Trump’s testimony turned political, attacking the judge and New York Attorney General as biased, and labeling the trial a “political witch hunt.”

The defense’s strategy has involved varying testimonies from key figures. Donald Trump Jr., also a defendant, initially distanced himself from crucial financial documents but later presented a more favorable narrative of the Trump Organization’s history. Similarly, ex-corporate controller Jeff McConney’s testimony shifted from implicating Trump in financial discrepancies to expressing exhaustion from legal challenges.

Deutsche Bank executives supported the defense, stating the bank conducted its own due diligence and found no fraud, echoing Trump’s claims that banks verified financial statements independently.

The trial has seen Trump’s combative style, including conflicts with the judge over a gag order. His upcoming testimony could further illuminate his approach ahead of other criminal trials he faces, with the first scheduled for March in Washington.
