Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, has defied a House Republicans’ subpoena to testify privately about his business dealings. This defiance escalates tensions with lawmakers who are voting to formalize President Biden’s impeachment probe. Republicans allege that the Biden family profited improperly from decisions made during Biden’s vice presidency but have found no evidence of wrongdoing by the president.

Hunter Biden, addressing these allegations outside the Capitol, insisted on testifying only in public, questioning the closed-door process’s transparency. He firmly denied any financial involvement of his father in his business, calling the probe baseless and politically motivated, especially with the 2024 presidential election approaching.

Republican Representative Darrell Issa expects the panel to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress if he fails to comply. Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin defends Hunter Biden’s decision, accusing House Republicans of distorting evidence.

Hunter Biden, who has publicly struggled with addiction, also faces federal firearms and tax charges. He’s charged with illegal gun possession during his addiction period and avoiding about $1.4 million in taxes. He criticizes the use of his financial irresponsibility during addiction as grounds for impeachment as “beyond absurd” and “shameless.”
