Following the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot, social media has seen a surge in threats against the justices. Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan research group, reported “significant violent rhetoric” in response to Trump’s comments on Truth Social. This includes users sharing justices’ personal information and suggestions of violence.

One user on a pro-Trump forum stated, “This ends when we kill these f–kers,” reminiscent of rhetoric from Jan. 6 rioters. Other posts discussed methods like using hollow-point bullets and bombs against perceived enemies of Trump. The report included images and links documenting these threats.

Daniel J. Jones, president of Advance Democracy, expressed concern over the consistent violent language and threats aimed at the Colorado justices. He emphasized the need for political leaders to condemn such violence and for social media platforms to reassess their role in propagating this rhetoric. The pattern of threats aligns with previous instances where legal actions against Trump led to similar responses, including the attack on the FBI office in Cincinnati and threats against Judge Tanya Chutkan. The Colorado Supreme Court and Trump’s campaign have not yet commented on the matter.
