A group advocating for liberal causes has filed a legal case in Michigan, seeking to prevent former President Trump from appearing on the ballot for the 2024 election.

The group, Free Speech for People, has previously brought similar cases in Colorado and Minnesota. They argue that Trump’s alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot disqualifies him from running for federal office, as per Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

This provision prohibits individuals who engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States from holding elected office. The lawsuit also draws a comparison between Trump and members of Congress who were expelled during the Civil War for supporting the Confederacy.
