In Nebraska, an 18-year-old woman faced legal consequences after she aborted a fetus with the assistance of her mother. The abortion took place during the third trimester, which was in violation of Nebraska law at the time. As a result, she received a 90-day jail sentence and two years of probation.
Her mother, who had been involved in the process, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including providing an illegal abortion, false reporting, and tampering with human skeletal remains. She is scheduled for sentencing on September 22.
This particular case has sparked discussions among Nebraska lawmakers regarding abortion access restrictions. Some lawmakers who opposed such restrictions have pointed to this case as an example of potential criminal penalties being imposed on women seeking abortions.
