The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has imposed a fine on the campaign of former Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) for not refunding excess contributions promptly. The FEC communicated this through a letter to the Rodney for Congress campaign and its treasurer, Thomas Charles Datwyler.

The campaign was asked to pay a fine of $43,475 for not returning excess contributions from the 2021-2022 election cycle. The FEC mandates that candidates must refund excessive contributions within 60 days if not redesignated for a campaign.

The FEC discovered that a contribution of $3,625 and general election contributions totaling $479,784 were not redistributed within the stipulated 60-day period.

Davis, a five-term Congressman, was pushed into a new district due to redistricting, where he competed with now-Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) and lost the 2022 GOP primary.

Attempts to reach Davis went unanswered. His committee informed the FEC that it plans to dissolve after resolving the issue.
