The Trump administration is limiting the flow of classified information to Congress following a leak undermining claims that Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated” in recent U.S. strikes. The leaked internal intelligence suggested Iran’s nuclear efforts were only set back by months.
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed an FBI investigation is underway into the disclosure of what she described as a “top secret” assessment seen by only a few officials. A senior White House aide told Axios the administration is “declaring war on leakers.”
The decision adds to mounting tensions between the White House and Congress, particularly Senate Democrats, who are pushing for a war powers resolution to restrict Trump’s ability to launch offensive military actions without approval. Sens. Tim Kaine, Adam Schiff, and Andy Kim introduced updated language Tuesday.
Lawmakers also criticized the cancellation of a classified briefing on the Iran strikes. Rescheduled briefings are now set for Thursday (Senate) and Friday (House) to accommodate Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
