Donald Trump dismissed intelligence findings presented by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, claiming Iran is “very close” to building a nuclear weapon, despite her testimony stating otherwise. Speaking aboard Air Force One early Tuesday, Trump rejected Gabbard’s March briefing that Iran had not resumed nuclear weapons development.

“I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having one,” Trump told reporters, contradicting the official U.S. intelligence assessment.

Gabbard, testifying before Congress, acknowledged Iran’s “unprecedented” stockpile of enriched uranium but emphasized the lack of a nuclear weapons program authorization by Supreme Leader Khamenei. On Tuesday, she maintained her remarks were consistent with Trump’s view.

The dispute surfaces as Trump weighs potential U.S. involvement in the escalating IsraelIran conflict. While the U.S. could support Israel indirectly, any strike on Iran’s underground enrichment sites would likely require American “bunker-buster” bombs.

U.S. intelligence reportedly estimates Iran is still three years away from being able to deploy a nuclear weapon.
