President Donald Trump floated the idea of “regime change” in Iran Sunday, days after ordering U.S. airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “If the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!”

The remarks contradict repeated statements from top administration officials who have emphasized that the strikes are not aimed at toppling the Iranian government. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the operation a “precision” mission to neutralize nuclear threats. Vice President JD Vance reiterated on Meet the Press that “regime change” is “not on the table.”

Trump also claimed the damage from the strikes was “monumental,” praising the B-2 bomber crews who flew more than 36 hours roundtrip from Missouri.

The president’s comments mark the first time he’s publicly referenced regime change since U.S. involvement in the Iran-Israel conflict began. While Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has hinted at removing Iran’s ruling clerics, there has been no domestic uprising in Iran amid the escalating conflict.
