President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be pardoned or have his corruption trial canceled. In a Truth Social post, Trump slammed the proceedings as a “WITCH HUNT,” calling them politically motivated and unfair.
Netanyahu has been on trial since 2020 for accepting lavish gifts—including cigars and champagne—from wealthy benefactors and allegedly pushing media-friendly policies in exchange for favorable coverage. He denies all charges.
Trump said the charges relate to “cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges,” adding that Netanyahu has “given so much” to Israel and deserves better treatment.
“This is the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has ever been on trial,” Trump wrote. “Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero.”
The post comes amid heightened U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict, which included joint airstrikes over the weekend. On Tuesday, Trump expressed frustration with both nations, saying, “They don’t know what the f— they’re doing.”
