Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, calling them a “completely unprovoked act of aggression.” The statement came during a meeting in Moscow with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, amid heightened tensions following Israel’s conflict with Iran.
Putin reaffirmed Russia’s strong ties to Iran and its support for the Iranian people, citing the country’s position at the United Nations Security Council. “We are committed to supporting the Iranian people through our continued efforts,” he said.
The U.S., under Donald Trump, bombed three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Iran responded by firing missiles at a U.S. Air Force base in Qatar, which were intercepted by Qatari defenses.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia is open to assisting Iran but awaits specific requests. The developments highlight Russia’s growing diplomatic engagement in the Middle East as global tensions escalate.
