The Trump Organization unveiled its new $499 T1 smartphone Monday, claiming it will be “built in the United States,” but tech analysts say the device is almost certainly made in China. Experts note that U.S. manufacturing capacity is too limited to support large-scale smartphone production.

Francisco Jeronimo of IDC told CNBC it’s “completely impossible” the T1 is designed or manufactured in the U.S., suggesting it was likely built by a Chinese original device manufacturer (ODM). Blake Przesmicki of Counterpoint Research added the phone’s design and production are likely outsourced overseas.

The Android-based device features a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, likely supplied by South Korean or Chinese firms, and components such as processors and cameras from Taiwan and Japan. Analysts say that even if some assembly occurs in the U.S., most parts will still be imported.

Trump has previously criticized Apple’s offshore manufacturing and pushed for electronics to be made domestically, though experts say doing so at scale would take years and raise prices significantly.
