President Donald Trump is facing unprecedented pushback in the Georgia governor’s race, with the Republican Governors Association launching a TV ad backing incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp (R), whom Trump is seeking to defeat.
The group, which has a goal of electing GOP governors, is funding a 30-second commercial backing Kemp as a “proven conservative leader” and bashing President Joe Biden’s policies.
The ad makes no mention of Kemp’s Trump-endorsed primary challenger, former U.S. Sen. David Perdue.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, this is the first time the group has funded an ad to support an incumbent against a Republican challenger, and it’s put more than $500,000 behind the effort.
A representative for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes.
