The drug control office of the White House has revealed a six-point plan to combat the spread of xylazine, a potent animal sedative that is being mixed with illicit opioids. The strategy focuses on enhancing testing, treatment, and interception of illegal shipments of xylazine.
While the plan doesn’t propose imposing new regulations on the veterinary medication, it does suggest investigating the feasibility of classifying xylazine as a scheduled drug, which would be subjected to regulatory limitations similar to opioids and amphetamines.
