A U.S. think tank leader who has repeatedly accused President Biden and his family of corruption has been charged with acting as an unregistered agent of China, Manhattan prosecutors announced Monday evening.
Gal Luft, co-director of the Maryland-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, is accused of recruiting and paying an unnamed former high-ranking U.S. government official on behalf of principals based in China in 2016, without registering as a foreign agent, which is legally required.
A former high-ranking official who served as an adviser to President-elect Donald Trump has been indicted on eight counts for allegedly accepting payments to publicly endorse certain policies related to China. The indictment also accuses the individual of attempting to broker illicit arms deals with countries like Libya, the United Arab Emirates, and Kenya, without having the required license, and violating Iran sanctions by arranging meetings between Iranian officials and a Chinese energy company for oil deals.
The accused made false statements regarding his role in brokering these deals when questioned by law enforcement. The FBI is committed to enforcing laws designed to promote transparency of foreign influence within the United States and defend the nation. The accused is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Israel who was arrested in Cyprus but is now a fugitive.
