Recent polling by Gallup has found that a record-breaking 63 percent of Americans believe that a third political party is necessary. This is the highest percentage since polling began in 2003.
The strongest support for a third party comes from political independents, with 75 percent expressing their desire for an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties.
Surprisingly, a majority of Republicans also endorse the idea of a third party, with 58 percent expressing support for more choices. This marks an increase from the previous year.
