Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declined to apologize for his tense Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump, stating that the dispute was “not good for both sides” but necessary.
During a Fox News interview, Zelensky defended his remarks, saying, “I think that we have to be very open and very honest… I’m not sure that we did something bad.” The meeting, originally planned to finalize a minerals deal, turned into a public argument, with Trump calling Zelensky “disrespectful” and Vice President J.D. Vance challenging Ukraine’s military strategy.
Following the clash, Trump ordered Zelensky and his team off the White House grounds, after Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz rejected their request to reset the discussion. A post-meeting press conference was canceled, and Zelensky instead appeared on Fox News.
When asked if he could repair his relationship with Trump, Zelensky replied, “Yes, of course. It’s more than just two presidents.” However, Trump later suggested Zelensky “overplayed his hand”, signaling that future U.S. support for Ukraine remains uncertain.
