Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay an official visit to Russia from May 7–10 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin confirmed Sunday.

Xi will attend Moscow’s May 9 Victory Day Parade and engage in bilateral talks to deepen what the Kremlin calls a “comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction.” The two leaders will sign a series of bilateral agreements.

This marks Xi’s third visit to Russia since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. China claims neutrality in the conflict but continues to support Russia economically and indirectly militarily, helping it circumvent Western sanctions through trade and technology supply.

Xi and Putin last met in Beijing in May 2024, and the Chinese president also hosted Putin in October. Since launching the Ukraine offensive, Russia has leaned heavily on China, redirecting energy exports and relying on Chinese firms for military components.

The Kremlin also accused Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of threatening the safety of dignitaries at the parade after Ukraine rejected Russia’s ceasefire offer, citing potential provocations.
