Gold Star families did not invite President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to commemorate the third anniversary of the Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan at Arlington National Cemetery, according to White House and Harris aides. This counters claims made by GOP Sen. Tom Cotton and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

The controversy arose after former President Donald Trump visited Arlington last week, where he faced criticism for taking photos with families in a restricted section. Trump defended his actions, stating that the photos were at the families’ request. Meanwhile, Cotton and Gabbard alleged that Biden and Harris were invited but failed to attend, a claim denied by the White House.

Gold Star families released statements supporting Trump and criticizing Harris, accusing her of politicizing the event. Harris responded by saying Trump had “disrespected sacred ground” during his visit. The dispute has intensified the ongoing political tension surrounding the handling of the Abbey Gate incident.
