The White House said Wednesday that Elon Musk is assisting in determining how Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg was added to a Signal group chat where Trump officials discussed U.S. military action.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Musk “offered to put his technical experts on this” to identify how Goldberg’s number was included and to prevent future incidents. Musk currently heads the Department of Government Efficiency.

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz suggested on Fox News that Goldberg may have hacked into the chat. Goldberg countered that Waltz invited him. The journalist detailed the experience in a Monday article titled “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans,” naming top officials including Waltz, VP JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and DNI Tulsi Gabbard.

Officials denied that classified information was shared. Goldberg later released specific details from the chat. Rubio admitted the incident was a “big mistake,” while the White House criticized the portrayal of the chat as “war plans.”
