Vice President JD Vance is now leading efforts to broker a deal for TikTok’s sale, alongside national security adviser Mike Waltz, according to Punchbowl News. Vance is handling negotiations, while Waltz focuses on national security concerns.
A 2024 law passed with bipartisan support requires TikTok to divest from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, by April 5 or face a U.S. ban. The Supreme Court upheld the law, rejecting TikTok’s First Amendment challenge. While some lawmakers regret their votes, others, like Sens. Tom Cotton and Pete Ricketts, insist TikTok must cut ties with China.
“Now that the law has taken effect, there’s no legal basis for an extension,” Cotton and Ricketts stated, urging ByteDance to comply. Vance, a former senator, has been key in advancing Trump’s agenda, now focusing on securing TikTok’s sale.
