WASHINGTON, D.C. — The top U.S. general overseeing operations in the Middle East said military objectives in Iran will not be achieved quickly, as American and Israeli forces continue an expanding air campaign now entering its third day.

According to Reuters, U.S. General Dan Caine warned Monday, “This is not a single overnight operation,” signaling that strikes launched Saturday by President Donald Trump in coordination with Israel could continue for weeks. Trump has indicated the campaign may last up to four weeks.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the operation aims to dismantle Iran’s missile systems, naval assets and broader security infrastructure. U.S. forces have reportedly intercepted hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles, underscoring the scale of the conflict.

In a significant development, Kuwait’s air defenses mistakenly shot down three U.S. F-15E fighter jets during an Iranian attack, and a fourth American service member died Monday. The Pentagon has acknowledged additional casualties are possible as operations intensify.

The United States has also deployed additional troops to the region. Military analysts cited by Reuters cautioned that air power alone may not remove Iran’s clerical leadership, suggesting prolonged instability remains likely as the campaign continues.
