Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe a recession is coming, according to a new April survey from LendingTree. The poll found that 47% expect a recession within six months, while another 15% foresee one further down the line. Only 14% said they do not expect a recession, and 24% were unsure.
The results show a clear partisan divide. Among Democrats, 77% expect a recession, with 62% anticipating it within six months. Among Republicans, 53% foresee a downturn, including 37% in the near term. Independents fall in the middle, with 60% predicting a recession and 46% expecting it soon.
The survey of 2,006 U.S. adults aged 18 to 79 comes as economists warn of economic risks stemming from President Trump‘s tariff policies and growing market volatility. Stock and bond market swings have added to uncertainty.
While partisan perspectives differ, concern about an economic slowdown is shared widely across the political spectrum.
