The Trump White House has removed nearly all official transcripts of the president’s public remarks from its website, replacing them with selected videos, according to archived site records. Only Trump’s 2025 inaugural address remains.

A White House official said the move aims to ensure “consistency” and promote a fuller understanding of the president’s remarks through audio and video. Critics, including historians and former White House stenographers, argue it reduces public accountability and transparency.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s press secretary, defended the change, saying the administration remains “the most transparent in history.”

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance’s office continues releasing full transcripts of his remarks, including international meetings and economic policy speeches.

Critics warn that Trump’s unscripted speaking style, sometimes called “the weave,” may sound incoherent in writing, possibly prompting the shift. Historians caution that the absence of transcripts undermines accurate recordkeeping.

Past administrations routinely published full transcripts. Trump’s current term saw only 30 released before they vanished.
