DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — President Donald Trump said U.S. forces carried out strikes on Iranian military targets on Kharg Island, a critical hub for the country’s oil exports, as fighting between the United States and Iran continued into a second week. Trump said the operation “obliterated” military facilities on the island but deliberately avoided oil infrastructure.

Kharg Island handles the majority of Iran’s crude exports, making it a key strategic location in the ongoing conflict. Trump warned that oil facilities could become future targets if Iran threatens shipping lanes or energy markets.

U.S. officials said Air Force bombers targeted missile storage locations and sites believed to house naval mines, while additional U.S. Marines and naval assets are being deployed to the region. The U.S. Navy is also preparing to escort commercial tankers through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure maritime security.

The escalation comes after nearly two weeks of strikes and counterattacks between Iran and U.S.-allied forces, raising concerns about regional stability and global oil supply disruptions.
