President Donald Trump on Tuesday revealed new details of the “Golden Dome,” a proposed $175 billion missile defense system designed to protect the U.S. from long-range and space-based threats. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said the system would be fully operational within three years and led by Space Force Gen. Michael Guetlein.

Trump described the Golden Dome as a sweeping defense initiative that integrates existing capabilities with hundreds of new satellites to detect and intercept threats from adversaries like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. He also said Canada has expressed interest in joining the project.

While Trump touted domestic manufacturing and named states like Alaska and Florida as project hubs, the plan drew scrutiny. Lawmakers questioned its $175 billion estimate—far below the $500 billion projected by the CBO—and potential contract conflicts involving Trump adviser Elon Musk.

Democrats raised feasibility concerns, noting the U.S. already has robust missile defense. Asked if the military requested the program, Trump replied: “I suggested it, and they all said, ‘We love the idea, sir.’”
