President Donald Trump will travel to Israel on October 13 to address the Knesset and attend a peace ceremony in Sharm el-Sheikh marking the official end of the Gaza conflict, according to the White House. The visit follows Hamas’s release of the final 20 living hostages after more than two years in captivity, marking a major turning point in the conflict.

The Israeli military confirmed the ceasefire began Sunday morning as the first hostages were handed over to the Red Cross. Among those freed was 24-year-old Alon Ohel, whose family and neighbors in the Galilee village of Lavon erupted in joy after seeing his image broadcast live from Gaza. “This is the best morning of my life,” said his cousin, Noam Rozen.

By midday, 13 more hostages were released, completing the deal negotiated under the Trump administration’s peace initiative. Israeli leaders and citizens gathered in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square to celebrate, though many families of deceased hostages said the healing process remains incomplete until their loved ones’ remains are returned.

Trump is also expected to meet leaders from more than 20 nations attending the Summit for Peace hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
