
In response to a criminal investigation into whether he broke campaign finance laws by paying hush money to women who claimed to have had affairs with him, the former U.S. president Donald Trump is meeting with attorneys to discuss his legal strategy.
The meeting takes place after Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney and fixer, was given a prison term in part for his involvement in the payments. Trump has vigorously denied any wrongdoing, and his attorneys are likely to contend that the payments were made to preserve his good name rather than to sway the election.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office, which has been looking into Trump’s business and financial dealings, is conducting the investigation. Trump’s most recent legal battle comes on top of numerous other investigations and lawsuits.
