On Friday, former President Trump stated he wants two actions in California before offering federal wildfire aid for Los Angeles: implementing voter ID and increasing water access statewide. “I want to see voter ID and water released to Los Angeles,” Trump said in North Carolina during a visit to hurricane recovery efforts.

Trump planned to visit Los Angeles later Friday to assess wildfire damage. Congressional debates over wildfire aid continue, with Republicans proposing conditions like linking assistance to a debt ceiling increase or changes to California’s fire policies. Democrats strongly oppose such conditions, calling them dangerous precedents.

Trump also claimed California could resolve water issues by releasing more from northern reserves, a suggestion experts dismiss as oversimplified. Fire hydrants reportedly ran dry recently due to surging demand. Trump has long supported voter ID laws, despite unproven claims of widespread election fraud.
