Washington, D.C. — President Trump threatened ABC News’s broadcast license on Tuesday after an exchange with White House correspondent Mary Bruce, who questioned him about unreleased files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, according to reporting from The Hill. The tense moment unfolded during a press availability in which Bruce also asked about the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, prompting Trump to accuse ABC of being “fake news” and to call Bruce “one of the worst” reporters in the White House press corps.
Trump defended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reiterating past claims that the Saudi government was not responsible for Khashoggi’s killing despite U.S. intelligence findings. But Bruce’s follow-up question on why the administration has not released Epstein-related documents escalated the confrontation, with Trump accusing ABC executives of coaching her to provoke him.
“It’s your attitude,” Trump said. “You’re a terrible reporter.” He denied any connection to Epstein and argued that Democrats continue to advance a “hoax” about the disgraced financier’s ties to political and business figures.
As Bruce attempted another follow-up, Trump suggested ABC’s broadcast license should be revoked. “Your news is so fake and so wrong,” he said, adding that FCC Chair Brendan Carr “should look at that.”
Trump has long feuded with ABC News, suing the network last year and securing a $15 million settlement. Carr has previously criticized ABC’s commentary programs and publicly pressed the network to suspend late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over remarks about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
